Our Person Centred Behaviour Support service supports children and adults with disability to:

  • Be a part of their community
  • Communicate better with others
  • Better understand behaviour
  • Make friends
  • Develop skills to express anger, anxiety or frustration

Our Person Centred Behaviour Support Service works with individuals, families and staff teams to understand behaviour as a communication and to develop effective strategies to reduce behaviours people may find concerning.

Our collaborative and capacity-building approach aims to support the person and those closest to them.

What we can offer

Our qualified, accredited and committed staff offer support in the following ways:

Individual Behaviour Support

The focus for our team is to enable individuals, families and staff teams (working with people with disability) to understand behaviour as a form of communication. We assist in the development of effective strategies to reduce behaviour others may find concerning.

Restrictive Practices Authorisation Support

Northcott is committed to least restrictive practice and will work with customers, their families and staff teams to reduce the risk and need for restrictions. However, Restrictive Practice Authorisation (RPA) Support acknowledges that sometimes a restriction on an individual is necessary to ensure their own safety and the safety of those around them. We can provide advice and support with all RPA registrations, reviews, submissions and mechanisms.

Training and Workshops

The Person Centred Behaviour Support Team provides many different workshops and training sessions to build skills and capacity of customers, families and carers and staff/managerial teams. Topics include Positive Behaviour Support/MAYBO, Introduction to Autism and Planning With My Family workshops.

Additional funding information

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will use the following terms to describe the funding that can be used to purchase Northcott’s Person Centred Behaviour Support services:

  • Improved relationships

We can also support our customers if they would like to pay for services using their own funds or if they have a different type of state or Australian government funding.

We will support our customers to identify the funding and services they are entitled to.
